The star of this clock is a vintage U. Navy CW-701A Radar modulator vacuum tube with rgb lighted US Nany ammeter. The tube is removable with the unplugging of a connector. The CW-701A Vacuum tube was very urgently needed for Navy radar application.

Since speed was of prime importance it was decided to take parts of a standard oxide-cathode power tetrode from a Western Electric 350A, and mount them in a structure capable of withstanding the required voltage; 12 kv in this case. Accordingly a cruciform structure was designed in which four sets of 350A electrodes were mounted on ceramic members attached to a molded glass dish-stem. The four cathodes have a total coated area of approximately 14 square centimeters. A molybdenum plate of cruciform section mounted from a lead-in at the top of the bulb was used. This construction eliminated internal insulators between plate and grids other than the bulb.

The control-grid of the 350A is normally gold plated to inhibit primary emission. This feature was retained in the 701A and the screen-grid also gold plated. The plate to screen-grid spacing was increased over that normaly used in the 350A in order to alow somewhat better cooling of the grids and to alow greater clearance for high voltage reasons.

This made the characteristics depart from good "beam tube" performance but at the high voltage condition of operation this was of little consequence. Characteristic curves of the 701A indicating performance under both high voltage and low voltage conditions. The hour ratings put on the 701A are shown on the tube itself.

There are 11 RGBs in and around the tube causing the lighted ring effect I call the Ezekiel effect. So If you like hand crafted brass, copper and vintage military vacuum tubes this is the clock for you. This model has a handmade copper tube socket. This model also has a vintage ammeter. So if you want a living piece of WWII history in your home or office this is your chance to own your own. The lights in the ammeter and the vintage vacuum tube are all slow cycle RGBs leds just to make it more interesting. The darker the room the more intense the lighting becomes. You can choose to turn the lights off if your clock is in a bedroom.

There is a YouTube video. Search Greg Denny CW-701A U. While it is true that I appreciate feedback good or bad if there is truly a need. If you were going to comment on some flaw in my design or if youre going to offer me 1/3 the price of my products please keep your comments and offers to yourself.

I Have built over 600 clocks with very few problems and if you notice my Feedback it is at 100% satisfied customers. I put a lot of thought and heart into my creations. I have a wife if I need correction and trust me she is not shy when there is a need. Back to my normal introduction.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my product. Ive had an interesting life full of hobbies like wood carving, blacksmithing and copper work this experience is reflected in my one of a kind creations. I sell a high quality clock designed in Switzerland and have sourced NOS tubes.

With the artistic help of my wife staining and beautifying the enclosures we now have a quality product that I would like to own and that I can sell with confidence. You can have a clock hand built in the USA from parts that are decades old but are new and being utilized for the first time in their lives. The clock has a battery backup that keeps time to + or - 1 minute a year. However from my observations I would say it is much more accurate than that. This is coming from a person who is a perfectionist and has CDO (thats OCD but in alphabetical order).

That level of obsessive precision goes into the building of your clock. The design is a 6 digit display that every minute if you wish will display the date for 5 seconds and then scroll back to the time. The only word that works for a description is.

All the functions are set with one simple button. There are too many variations to describe here but be assured you can have this clock Your Way.

Tube life is lengthened by a blanking mode which you set when you are away and also an Anti Cathode Poisoning Feature that keeps the filaments clean and adds to the overall life of the tubes. Inspired by the SteamPunk movement Ive incorporated elements of copper and brass all handmade and unique to each clock.

Each clock is a work of joy. I find myself watching the clock instead of TV. Never had the passage of time been so fun. If there is a problem contact information is provided do I can quickly and efficiently take care of your needs.

If you read my feedback youll see I have happy customers and would certainly like your business as well. The size is 8 1/2 wide by 7 1/2 deep by approximately 13 tall.
